Lillian Feldman Schwartz - Googolplex

1972

Extended editing techniques based on Land’s experiments affect the viewer’s sensory perceptions. “This viewer also found ‘Googolplex’, the six-minute computer-made compilation of swiftly-moving patterns … to be inventive, eye-catching examples of technical professionalism.” – A.\ H. Weiler, N. Y. Times. Lincoln Center Film Festival. (5-1/2 min.)

MIRAGES by Sabrina Ratté/ Music : Le révélateur

MIRAGES from Sabrina Ratté on Vimeo.

Vidéo: Sabrina Ratté
Musique: Le Révélateur
-2010

Ursula Bogner - 2 Ton & Speichen

Ursula Bogner - Speichen from Marketa Vũ Trụ on Vimeo.

Ursula Bogner, as Jelinek explains in the compelling backstory that accompanies this record, was born in 1946 and died in 1994 and spent twenty of those years creating synthesizer music as a hobby. She never released any of her music, preferring to keep it to herself—a sort of Sunday producer who otherwise lived the normal life of a pharmacist and family woman. Nevertheless, she was at the very least a deep appreciator of early electronic composition; she built her own home studio and followed the theories and activities of early electronic music collectives such as Studio Für Elektronische Musik.

The story of how Jelinek came across these personal home recordings is no less intricate. Jelinek first heard about the recordings from Ursula Bogner's son, Sebastian, who happened to be sitting next to him on a flight. From there, the two began corresponding and eventually the son sent Jelinek his mother's tapes. The large collection of recordings Jelinek received betrayed a dabbler who spent over twenty years experimenting with different styles and possibilities, from exercises in oscillation and modulation, to the layering of rhythmic patterns, to simple electronic pop melodies.

FELIX & HIS MACHINES

Felix's Machines from Felix Thorn on Vimeo.

FELIX & HIS MACHINES
Felix’s Machines are music making sculptures. They were constructed in Felix’s bedroom and exist to facilitate music by translating rhythmic audio structures into a three-dimensional visual show. They function as musical instruments as well as kinetic sculptures. The Machines are a performance device, but can be well suited to act as an art installation, theatre accompaniment, or standalone sculptures. The pieces invite an audience to share the experience of their creator. Felix aims to exploit the complexity found behind the workings of most digital music and turn digital compositions into a more accessible equivalent. These Machines do not intend to match human potential. Instead they exist to test the advantages of mechanical instruments alone. Felix comments on his machines: “Although my medium focuses on the development of acoustic sounds, I am continually inspired by electronic music - the countless abstractions act as blueprints for the construction of its acoustic counterparts. I aim to build a space where artificial and dream-like environments can become a reality."
